for starters, besides the main characters, what would the side characters be like? considering that the author focuses only on the important cast, how do the side characters live day to day?
do they ever witness the events happening in the plot of the novel?
what would their living spaces be like? kind of like the truman show, do you think everything outside the main cast’s environment would be decorated or fully functional, or would it be purely aesthetic, serving no real purpose other than to provide a backdrop for the story?
i imagine the author wouldn’t bother to design settings suited to each character’s personality. speaking of which, would the side characters’ personalities be developed? would they change over time, indicating growth in character?
i reckon i’d love to explore the world of the novel beyond the immediate setting used for the story. how would the characters who aren’t relevant to the plot, those who merely fill the void, be like? if you, as the person transported into that world, tried to explore beyond, would you encounter an edge that reveals the limits of the author’s creation?
or would it be vast, allowing exploration and adventure independent of the story?
if you were to go beyond, would you cease to exist since you’d no longer be relevant to the plot, and therefore no longer serve a purpose?
thank you for coming to my ted talk.
