Why do I find metal so appealing?

I ask myself this question a very often and I give it around 10 seconds of thought and then move on with my day. So now I will give it about 20 minutes of thought instead. yap yap yap.

*I enjoy the wide variety of standard, drop tuned, twin, slam, technical, and caveman resembling guitar riffs and their accompanying tones. Writing metal riffs and learning the songs I like is a tediously freeing process that creates a nice flow of dopamine.

*I enjoy the simple melodic singing and emotional fry screaming of nu metal and groove metal, I enjoy exacerbating the deep Satan resembling growls of death metal, and I enjoy the lucifers disciple shrieking of black metal to a slightly lesser extent.

*I appreciate the complex drumming and how they decide the atmosphere of the music. Blast beats and groovy drumming makes me want to thrash around and headbang.

*I adore the artistic trends of the macabre in metal. It satisfies my primal fascinations and gives insight to just how cruel some people can be. BUT this is all with a grain of salt and edge as I only enjoy this from an consumer standpoint, I don't think literally being stripped, raped, and strangled is a good thing.

*As toxic, perverted, and undeniably childish as the scene is, I love the metal scene so much. Discussing metal and arguing over what metal is true and what is for posers gives me a feeling of patronizing superiority that rivals that of a condescending older womens gossip circle. Putting down a band and defending another is a nice stimulation to help reevaluate whether or not the metal I listen to is good. To say art taste is subjective to each individual is to remove the value from said art from others.

*The personal growth is extremely satisfying for me. At one point in time I had short hair struggled to play hot cross buns. Now in the futuristic year of 2025 I have long hair and know all about shredding and what gear does this or that and what tuning one song is in and the exact strumming rhythm and blah blah blah. Without being pompous Id say that im a 6.5/10 at guitar. Not a master, but definitely not a novice.

This is just a huge yap session on why I like metal.

tl;dr im a dork who likes metal bc it sounds cool
