requiem for a dream changed my life

Untitled

this movie is so traumatizing but not in the shock value gory way, in the way where it leaves you on the credits screen thinking "wtf was that" more people need to watch this movie because its like a psa. it shows you the dangers of addiction and how easily you could get addicted to things and throw away your dreams.

like for example, sara goldfarb was an ordinary sweet old mother before she got the call informing her she was gonna be on television. she obsessed over it and it became her life purpose. she was fixated on fitting into that red dress. when she noticed things were wrong it was already too late. same thing with harry goldfarb. in the moment he was like "ill be alright, it'll get better" and it didn't. this is why you should stop smoking, drinking, using whatever before its TOO late. when you know and acknowledge you're addicted, thats the first sign telling you should probably start trying to quit.

NEVER quit your addiction all at once, this movie also shows how far people will go to get what they want. in this case, it was heroin. three of the main characters in this movie were addicted to heroin. Marion Silver  (Harry Goldfarb's girlfriend) wanted to "push off" so bad that she resorted to drastic measures id rather not describe. but I will say, that what she did stripped her of all her dignity. before i watched this movie, i didn't think withdrawals were t that intense and you could control yourself if you really wanted to quit. requiem for a dream literally opened my eyes and gave me a whole new perspective on this topic. plus, the things like drugs and drinking  do to your body AREN'T WORTH IT. most alcoholics and drug addicts   do it to feel good or escape their reality. but when that feeling wears off, what next? they're still them, nothing ever changes and they're still destroying their body little by little. but, that's just how i see it. i really don't get it and i wont until i get into an addict's shoes.

they all couldn't fulfill their dreams because of their addictions. Harry and Marion wanted to open up a shoe business together and Harry ended up in a hospital bed having to get the arm where he injected himself amputated. Harry's friend "Tyrone" wanted to make his mother proud and he ended up in prison for distributing and or wanting to get his hands on drugs again. Sara goldfarb wanted to be on television so bad to the point where she literally went mad, got put in solitary confinement, and the diet pills she kept taking didn't help with that. Marion and Sara were the only people in this movie who got their "happy ending" because in Sara's mind she got to be on television with her sober son. and Marion got what she wanted, but she wasn't really herself after she did what she did. she was ...... out of it. its also sad to think about how this is sadly some people's realities.
