since someone who is very gringe and had the opportuniry to be in 2010 fandom during its peak, i noticed how now fandom spaces feel diferent, it feels... boring, even, so i asked to mysefl, what it did change? and i think i find the guilty...

im not crazy i swear. hear me out alright-
since he internet began to exist, it was domitaned by nerds and it was seen as something of nerds, and nerd spaces were safe spaces for the weirdos, queer people, subcultures and anything out of what was normal. anything was cool for fandom spaces, gringe fanfics, crackships, headcanons, fanart of a founding father as a trans man whit a miku binder in the tumblr artstyle, anything really because all the people who used the internet was nerds.
but it changed in the lock down. we couldnt step out of our houses, and only thing that they had to socialize was the internet and we know at people likes to cope what is in trend right... so they noticed how all in the internet was weird and gringe they coped it and they starred to act the same, tho they really didnt liked to act like that. in less words, the lock down was the door for normies to invade fandom and nerd spaces
so after the trend died all the normies started to act like before, but now inside the internet and fandom spaces. normies finded the fandom culture gringe and weird so they pushed people to think it was bad. idk if im in the wrong side of the internet but i see a lot of people hating on fanfics, ships, headcanons and fandom culture in general an it PMO SO BAD.
i dont gloryfi the old internet, i know at it had bad things too btw.
idk if i make this shit understandable but i think that yall undertand my point. so, thank you for read this thing!!! i hope you enjoy it (˶ > ₃ < ˶) anyways, since theres other thing that i have to say...

I think another big part of it is affected by recommended content, infinite scroll, and "for you" algorithm pages on social media. It feels like far fewer people are actively seeking out others in fandoms/hobbies, and the lack of intent and passion opens the door to people who don't really care that much. I've heard people (mostly in anime subcultures) use the term "hobby tourist," or just "tourist" to refer to people more focused on how they look with a hobby more than actually *doing* the hobby (a more literal definition would be newbies or people just seeing what it's about). Now more than ever people are treating fandoms/hobbies like fashion accessories or are collecting them like badges. Not to say anything is wrong with exploring interests, but when the conspicuous aspect outweighs the genuine passion things start to get boring.

I was in both sides of the internet, the most normal and quirky and not that problematic but I saw that part too. I would say, both sides turned extreme in their own ways. "No fun shipping cuz their are not related at all", or "Characters that would be doing inmoral stuff!!!" Yeah they were pretty niche years ago, but I dont know what happened that both sides grew as a whole. Maybe with the woke movement in that time, a lot of people went to the other side as "protest agaisnt the woke!!" But.. I dont know exactly. Is a shame moments that (excluding bad moments in those communities) no one can experience watching MAPS of musicals like heathers meanwhile it represents a popular ship at the time, or do Tumblr asks videos of creppypastas where people in youtube made fandubs about. I hope everything can change, and let everyone be how they want, instead the prejudice that communities has now.
