Halloween Butterfly

when i got home from school, there was a butterfly on our bird feeder. I approached it cuz it was weird, and it couldn't fly away. so i picked her up and put her inside to try and see what was wrong.

this is her:

at least i think it's female. feel free to double check tho.

also notice the orange and black and white themes. she was also getting ready for halloween!!!

if you cant see it, its a very pretty female monarch butterfly, with it's bottom right wing over the top right, where it should be the opposite.

very slowly, i put it back into place, which i succeeded! hoorah!

but she still didnt move much, or try to fly away, so i put her in our oregano and spend the rest of the night doing normal halloween-party things.

11/1/25

this is today. i checked up on her in the oregano and panicked because she was in the same place all. night. long. 

so i brought her inside again and tried to feed her a bottle cap of honey. but after a while she only moved when i touched her, and she only would move very gently, so i let her be. 

then my mom went into the room and started yelling because there was a live butterfly in the house! so i went and she was moving again!!!!

so i brought her outside again and after thoughtful consideration, i put her in the garden with a bottle cap of honey next to some water lilies just in case. 

if any butterfly nerds see this and want to scream at me for doing something wrong then please do because i want to make her as happy as a butterfly can be :)

also i need name recs!!! although hopefully i never see her again and she goes to live a great fulfilling life, i wanna call her something other than "the butterfly i met on halloween"

I'm updating because I checked up on her today and I think sadly she's dead :(

I'm sorry if I was an idiot and accidentally killed her but i really tried my hardest to give her everything she needed

also ignore what my fingers are doing in most of them. I heard once that touching a butterfly's wings was bad so i was trying my hardest to not touch them (even though she's technically dead)

anyway, after i was 99% sure she was dead, i left her on the ground in the backyard for the ants to get her </3

and the reason i say 99% is because she was still twitching a LITTLE, but that's often a sign that an animal is dead and it's just the muscles doing something. also in case she was still alive, i didn't bury her or anything like that. I just left her to lay on the ground.

anyway. glad that i got to meet her :) this was my first ever time actually coming even relatively close to a butterfly, so this was definitely super duper special :)
