I loved M.J Bikie meets The Lock Ness Monster

Self explanatory, tho this is just a post of me rambling about the book instead of a well written essay lmao.

Cover of the book

The book is about M.J. Bikie and his family going on vacation to the Scottish Highlands through the lock Ness in a boat, the Highlands Princess, but as it turns out Bikie and his family are going to face their most dangerous adventure yet. Discovering a dark secret that makes a group of cultists wanting to kill them.

Now, the book isn't as dark as the synopsis says. It's your typical adventure book for all the members of the family: a simple story-line, charismatic characters, villians that are evil just because of power/greed, mild violence at most, and so on. But that's what I love about it, just a simple novel which is appropriate for all ages.

No characters are annoying, the story was great (tho I have a single grudge about how an element is justified in-universe, narration-wise, not in concept) and the villains are good at their job. Sometimes you want to read a complex novel like I.E: Don Quixote, and sometimes you just want to read a simple novel.

In conclusion:
As I've stated multiple times, the simplicity is what I specially love about it. I never thought I'd enjoy the adventure genre as much as I did it with Bikie, McTavish (best character btw) and company. Plus, since I'm not english, it was nice to learn more about Scotland's vocabulary.
This is apparently Neil Cockburn's first book too, and kinda shows, but if he ever writes another book (regardless if Bikie is the protagonist or completely different characters) I'll definitely be there to read it.

Thank you for reading
