POPULAR LIES ABOUT GYARU ꉂ૮(°□°'˶)ა

Unmasking popular lies about gyaruꉂ(˵˃ ᗜ ˂˵)

Hiyaa (=`ω´=)!!

I'm Juli, I'm a spanish gyaru and I've seen the bunch of missinformation that has been spread about gyaru after how popular it became on apps like tiktok, so I'll go for points. If you're interested on knowing more of gyaru, I recommend u to stay and read ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚

(Also this will be kinda short and I'll only touch whiches I consider the three most important things to explain but I'll probably post more soon, this is my first ever blog :33 Also I'd appreciate if u leave any kind of comment ^^)

🌺╰┈➤ "Gyaru was made to go against standards so it has to be ugly"

•This is probably something we all heard about gyaru, but although many gyaru substyles contradict Japan's standards, (overall substyles such as yamanba, manba, ganguro, etc,...), gyaru started as a fashion trend to follow western standards and clothing. It's also really important to remember that many of those fashion aesthetics and other things that are used in the subculture are highly influenced by black culture such as the fake long nails, tanning to get a darker skin tone, some clothing, etc,... because white occidentals, specially americans, (the ones gyarus were getting inspiration from) got inspired or even appropiated many things from black americans overall during the 80's-2000's, whiches then japanese gyarus started imitating aswell.

As I said, many of those foreigner beauty and fashion standards (and the rest of flashy and exaggerated things that were added to gyaru) contradict the japanese ones but that's just it and that doesn't make gyaru "ugly" at all neither that's the point, even if it's a really exaggerated and dramatic makeup or general look.

Also many gals go along some of those japanese standards (such as being pale, having dark hair, wearing light makeup, etc,...) and that doesn't make them less gyaru.

🌺╰┈➤"Gyaru has to be exaggerated"

•As we said before, gyaru in part tries to imitate certain foreigner standards, and that doesn't have to be in a crazy or exaggerate way at all. You can follow the gyaru bases in a simplified way and it'll still be gyaru, actually, most gyaru models don't wear overcharged makeups:

!!SUPER TIP!!: When using less charged and more soft makeups it's important (or at least highly recommendable) to also wear things such as circle contact lenses and lashes because if not it'll be really hard to recognize the gyaru look since it'll lack of key elements, plus those two things elevate the gal look A LOT.

🌺╰┈➤"Gyaru doesn't have any rules"

•It's quite surprising how people still deny the existence of rules in a subculture, whiches are basically what make the subculture be what it is.

Without rules, the concept of gyaru would literally crumble and anyone could wear (for example) a goth makeup and say that it's gyaru because "it has no rules", sounds stupid, right? Gyaru is a very free and extense subculture that allows a lot of substyles and mixing styles in it, but that doesn't mean it has no rules. The makeup, for example, can be done many ways, simpler, overcharged,... But all those ways follow a base, the base that makes gyaru makeup be gyaru.

The eyeliner, for example. it cannot be drawn straightly upwards, it has to go or at least start downwards, and still, you can do it many different ways. With a bigger eyeliner, a smaller one, round shaped, sharper, with an empty droop, with the droop painted all black, etc,... That's what we mean when we say that gyaru makeup has tons of valid ways to be done, because there's many ways to follow a rule/step/part of the base, that's why when you break it it's not considered gyaru anymore.

Examples of the many ways to follow the eyeliner rule:
