Untitled Poem

Untitled

I fear I'll never feel freedom

like I did at fifteen

Wandering across highways and fields,

The breeze carried us down paths only we could see.

Blisters festering on my feet,

We trekked for miles

Found solace

Perched on a curb

Sharing a cigarette between the two of us

watching as the cars blurred

Burnt to the filter,

It signaled us back along.

I'll never feel as free as then

No destination in mind,

Inattentive to the setting sun

The rain trickled down,

Unexpected, but we never dwelled on the soaking of our clothes.

No time for that, it seemed.

We sheltered beneath the canopy of trees

Til we hitched a ride

Separate ways home

A day gone, fifteen miles gained
