lower jaw surgery

PREVIOUS INFO:

★im not a native english speaker sorry for the mistakes ★i got it bc of an overbite not an underbite ★my wisdom teeth were also removed ★it was 2weeks ago

PAIN:

IT'S OKAY i had really strong painkillers that drained all my energy (fr i couldnt do ANYTHING during the first 4 days😔) and ice worked really well for me. honestly the worst was the rubber bands like my jaw was not moving at all the first days (youre supposed to have a 3/4mm opening between your teeth) BUT now i have that 4mm opening with the same rubber bands so i think my jaw muscles just took a long time to wake up😔

EATING:

the rules concerning  the "liquid, blended, soft" method are not important dont worry abt it bc my physical therapist (not sure abt the translation mb) told me "2weeks liquid, 2weeks blended, 2weeks soft" and my surgeon told me i could eat overcooked rice and pasta the day after the surgery 💀. soo i just did depending on my pain : only ate soup and mashed potatoes at first, i could eat well cooked diced veggies on day4 and now i can eat pasta and chopped meat AND i start to use my teeth to chew💪(idk if im allowed to but only chewing with the tongue is so uncomfortable)

⚠️the blended part is the worst (it's why i started eating soft on day4) like only eating mashed veggies is so weird i wanted to throw up all the time but would never be full what a nightmare

HYGIENE:

serious talking here, i have NEVER felt this dirty💀 at first i couldnt even brush my molars bc of the swelling and the sensitivity of the stitches(btw theyre still not gone when theyre supposed to last a week🦧). then you cant brush the back of your teeth and your tongue bc of the rubber bands :<. for the back of the teeth you can use the little brushes we get to clean between braces and teeth and bend it so you can put it behind your teeth and brush as much as possible, thats the only way i found to do it. unfortunately theres nothing i could do for the tongue😔, the only way is to remove all your rubber bands at once when it's time to change them (i cant my jaw thought it'd be fun to be locked so even without the bands i cant open big enough for a toothbrush💀)

SWELLING:

it's bad obviously but it's different for everyone. my experience: day1-4=very swollen, day4-6=swollen+bruise, day7-11=less and less swelling and bruise, day11-now=no bruise+big cheeks.

some tips: ice as much as possible, swelling leaves with time and gravity so sleep with more pillows than usual and massage your jaw to push the swelling down(those really work my collarbones were bruised :])

i havent written abt feeling back your lower lip and chin bc i could feel them completely like 4hours after the surgery but you can still get them back 3years after surgery so dont worry too much if it takes time:)

im done ig there are no stupid questions dont hesitate:P
