Finally got around to starting this wonderful challenge!
Week 1 (10/19/25 - 10/25/25)
Frank Sinatra - In The Wee Small Hours
1955 - USA - 50:25 - 16 Tracks
Starting off strong with a very sweeping and melancholy album by Frank Sinatra; featuring whimsical orchestral flourishes paired with somber lyrics steeped in love and heartbreak and finding hope in times of crisis. Overall a very enchanting album painted in hues of blue like the first traces of dawn. While it is a very wonderful album that I very much enjoyed, I did find the overall track list to be very similar causing the songs to blur together and feel repetitive.

Elvis Presley - Elvis Presley
1956 - USA - 28:42 - 12 Tracks
A classic fun-loving swinging rock and roll album from one of the greatest artists of all time, chock-full of catchy guitar riffs backing up Elvis's signature booming voice. Despite the album coming from one of rock's greatest, this album felt very lackluster and middle of the road. While it was fun and flashy, it did feature some more sad and downer tracks that were very oddly placed. The constant up and down of emotions felt very out of place and certainly kept me on my toes. The songs also felt very alike and I found myself just sitting through the album rather than really listening. Its a very short album but it ended up feeling much longer than it should. Overall it was a fun and interesting listen but I don't feel personally compelled to revisit anytime soon.

the recording of mood indigo off of that sinatra album is my second-favorite after nina simone's. the whole album is so melacholic, I really like how you described the feeling of it; it's very impressionistic.
this is a very specific and kind of out-there connection but one of my favorite early 90s punk bands released an EP whose cover art and name homage that album.
Omg that is so cool! imma check it out!
