The gig that I did this past Friday with Supernova was...interesting. The band sounded good overall, which is important. But as long as the crowd stays, even better.
But damn it was chilly outside!!
Yes, we played Lentini Farms in Newton, NJ. And when the sun went down, BRRRR!! It wasn't cold but painfully chilly enough for me to wear a glove on my fretting hand and leather jacket. Those were both firsts for me. I never did that live but no better time than the present to get things moving. I couldn't wear a glove on my picking hand as it muted the strings too much. And my damn nose kept running too!!!
Thank God for the space heaters on stage though!
We were supposed to play from 5-9 with breaks in between. But the crowd kept dancing, so the promoter said, "I'll pay you more if you do one more set." So, we played for FIVE hours! Last time I played that long was years ago when I was in the cover band Mary's Basement. We'd play the singer's brother-in-law's house for July 4th parties and we'd go from 2pm til 10. Was fun while it lasted.
Anyway, Supernova were wrung out afterwards WOW! Between the chilly weather and poor eating habits (NO REAL FOOD THERE?) we felt like 10 miles of bad road. Still, the crowd stayed and dance, and that gave us the energy to keep going.
I still don't get why "Mr. Brightside" is such a favorite though!
