The Signs; Foggy Hearts and Gifts

What an idiot I must be,
to care so much,
for one who cares so little.

You say that you wish,
that you wish to bring harm
to yourself,
and I,
I do what is in my power
to make you see reason,
to prevent the pain
that it is bound to cause.

...

There is a memory,
of a little girl,
overhearing a conversation
between adults,
"She passed away, two
hours ago."

The girl couldn't believe this,
for she had seen the woman
only six hours earlier.
The woman had given gifts,
drawn a foggy heart on the car window.

All but six hours earlier.

...

Today, the girl has aged,
five years, older,
more perceptive,
understanding.

She does not wish
to make the same mistake,
ignorant to the signs.

She knows that pain,
much, much pain,
will follow if the signs
are ignored.
