★ Sandy Dumbrowski - Grease: High School Edition (2023)
> I played Sandy my Freshman year of highschool! I was SOOOOO overjoyed that I got a lead as a freshman! I had only done theater my 8th grade year since 7th grade was my covid year and I ended up doing online school. So this was the first time I was going to experience something closer to a real show process with other people who were committed as well. She was a super fun role, especially with all the fake punches on stage... But yeah, she was fun to play because she skips all the dance scenes (I'm not a great dancer), and she also expanded my vocal ability a lot! It was also a very disastrous show! We had a golf cart as Greased Lightning, which was almost ran off the stage into the audience and then DID end up crashing into the back curtain AND into a table AND THEN almost ran a stagehand over. Still, we had great shows, and this was definitely the year that our theatre program started picking up because we had a REALLY solid cast of dedicated people that could actually sing in high school...
★ Hermia - A Midsummer Night's Dream (2023)
> We did a cut down version of this show for a theatre festival my sophomore year, and to this day, it is the best show my high school has performed. The entire show, we were having the time of our lives! Every moment backstage was excitement for each next scene and everyone just being so positive and hyping each other up. Everyone in the crowed was loving it and could tell we were too. The judges told us that we were the best they had ever seen Shakespeare performed, and this was coming from professionals who have been in the business a long time and seen PLENTY of Shakespeare. We ended up bagging all of the acting awards (including myself, who got best leading actress :3) except one (which we believe was out of pity). The ONLY reason we didn't make it from district to state was because our school gets NO FUNDING for theatre, so our set design was very simple. But either way, we all know we deserved to make it to state, and even if we didn't, we put on an amazing show that we all loved and were proud of!
★ Gretchen Wieners - Mean Girls Jr. (2024)
> This was a rough year. For starters, I hold myself to a really high standard when auditioning and just basing my worth on whether I got the role I wanted. I was really set on being Janis or Regina (mostly Janis). Everyone at auditions was telling me that they thought I was going to get Gretchen. I really did not want Gretchen because, at the time, I didn't fully understand her character. I thought that she was pathetic and useless, and probably the last character you think of when you think of Mean Girls. I completely psyched myself out and did my monologue cold reads just like I thought Gretchen would, and ended up getting the role. I was super bummed out, until the next day, my director spoke to me. He told me that he knew it was a role I wouldn't like, but to trust he had a vision. It took me a while to learn that it wasn't because I wasn't good enough for a role like Janis or Regina, but that it was what was best for the entire cast as a whole for everyone to be placed where they were, and both of those sweet ladies KILLED their roles btw. Eventually, I learned to understand and love playing Gretchen, and how she's probably the most relatable character in Mean Girls. I also eventually learned that I was my directors contingency plan for both Janis AND Regina after some incidents... But anyway, the big part of the story about this show is that we had to switch from the teen edition to the junior edition with only a month left of rehearsal time. It was extremely devastating when we found out someone complained to our school board about the content (which we had mostly edited out), and they forced us to switch. My director ended up threatening to quit his job when they requested we don't portray Damian as a gay character (which was going to be played by the most incredible, passionate performer I know who is gay, which would have been DEVASTATING for him having to grow up in such a conservative area and being rejected his whole life to find out he can't play his DREAM ROLE because of his identity), thankfully, we got to keep him. Through a lot of people threatening to quit the show, we pulled it all back together within a month and performed AMAZING shows!!
★ Jetsam - The Little Mermaid (2024)
> This was not my favorite show. It was a very good show, but at time, I was incredibly exhausted and the cast was not as tight-knit like I love them to be. I enjoyed playing the role as it was very different to me. I played opposite a long time friend of mine who I had been very good at harmonizing with, which is vital for a role like this if you know the songs! It ended up being lots of fun and we ended up being fan-favorites! I don't have a whole lot else to add to this, but it was a good summer show!
★ Dragon - Shrek Jr. (2025)
> This was a very fun and different role for me. I originally wanted Fiona, and I was devastated again when I didn't get her. I went to my director and asked him what I could do better next time and what I lacked in my audition to not be seen as Fiona. He told me that he knew that I could play Fiona, but no one else could sing the part of the Dragon like I could. It once again taught me that where you are cast does not define if you were "good enough" for a part, but instead reflects what is best for the show, and ALL of the people cast in it. Though I would have liked to have a bit more stage time and... and least one line... it was still a really fun part, and I especially loved doing my makeup and the costuming! The casting was very perfect and everyone had so much fun! I want to dedicate the rest of this shows story to my friend Suzy. She played Titania in Midsummer and Janis in Mean Girls, and Ursula in Little Mermaid while we were in school together. At this point she had been graduated, and came to visit us during rehearsal. I hadn't seen her in so long. She was so excited to be around us again, her safe space, and offered to help backstage with makeup during the shows, and had so many wonderful ideas for it. It was amazing catching up with her. We found out that she passed that night when she went home. We all found out the next day. It was the first time I had experienced loss like that since I was super young, and even more baffling because I had seen her less than 24 hours ago. I couldn't believe it. We dedicated the show to her. She was an incredible performer. She seriously had the voice of an angel, the most beautiful voice I will ever hear. We miss you Suzy <3.
> This was one of my favorite roles so far! Honestly because it was just right up my alley, but also, it was with a cast that I don't work with very often but always have so much fun with when I do. I also got closer with some of those people so it was super fun! It was such a perfect casting all around honestly which made it even better. Vocally, it was a little challenging because Wednesday is closer to a true contemporary Soprano... while I am a Mezzo-belter... I was also sick RIGHT before the shows started! I was able to push through the singing well except for how unbelievably out of breath it made me... But anyway, this show also means a lot to me because I was in it during a time in my life where I was recovering from severe depression and moving on from an abusive relationship, and it gave me something to focus on instead of thinking about him all the time.
★ Hero - Much Ado About Nothing (2025)
> My school took a cut down version of this piece to a festival this past weekend! This show was... quite the ride. My director had it planned out since last year and had really big plans for it. We ended up hammering down everything the week of the festival. We didn't even have a dress rehearsal for it. Our last run was the day before the festival with everyone still calling line frequently. The day of the festival, we still had to cut lines and sections to make sure it fit in the 45 minute time frame. We were all very stressed and very anxious, but when we got on stage to finally perform, it well really well. We knew we weren't going to make it to state because of our set, as our school does not get a lot of funding for the theatre department, but we always sweep the acting awards. My personal experience with this show and character was that I was fairly prepared, I knew my lines and was confident with my performance, but I felt like I had a smaller role (with the cuts that were made) and it led me to believe that I wouldn't receive any one act awards. When I heard that the two lead actors and a supporting actor received the All Star Cast awards, it reinforced the idea that I wouldn't receive this year, which bummed me out because I am a huge perfectionist over my performance. Then they called my name to receive the Best Supporting Actress!! I was so shocked but so so proud of myself. Overall, this festival day was incredible!
