I am writting my first book, i need help

basically i have a bajillion drafts of it in my head and i want to get to writting, i have already thought of all the characters, names, plot points and made the first few paragraphs. i dont care if a lot of people read it or not because in my opinion it is going to find whoever needs to read it. becoming famous is the least of my concerns rn.

problem is idk if it will actually get published cuz of how the subject matter and profanity it contains. it is a pretty non light hearted read (im not being edgy about it, its about prostitution, rape and anorexia) and from what i heard about publishers is that they currently prefer books that are less violent. does anyone know if its gonna make it into an actual book or not?

i also want to release it under a pen name that is way diffirent from my own cuz i gen dont want ppl i know, esp my overbearing & too supportive balkan family, reading it.

should i edit the whole thing and go for it or would it be better to not do it at all? im confused as fuck abt it rn.

Well getting published is always hard, but dont worry recently darker books are getting a little more popular. If the story is good trust me it wont be a problem. I heard of sometimes authors publishing their works in like Wattpad or so and then later making them into actual books due to popularity like that "alchemished" book, i believe but still, good luck!

i would say try not to worry too much - there have been plenty of books published that deal with so many dark topics, even in present times where there have been rising concerns of the complete censorship of depicting all dark and serious topics in media. however, i do hear that sometimes publishers are less likely to publish the work with darker topics and violence if it doesnt mean anything beyond being shocking for the audience.

just to be more reassured that you wont be wont be rejected just because of the depiction of those subject matters, and publishers will be interested in your book; make sure these serious topics and this violence are written with a purpose, and that shows. also, consider the idea that you can always do some self-publishing as well!

also, its best to just write the book before thinking about publishing, to just let it exist and edit the book based on what you think is good for the narrative and themes. especially in this early stage of writing a book. good luck on writing!!

also btw - i have never published a book. my comment is based on what ive seen being said in writing fourms by those who have done their research on publishing, been publishing, or have some closeness with the industry.

and also not all publishing houses with have the same requirements on what theyd prefer to publish. some are more willing to handle publishing books that deal with trauma more than others because of what they specialize in more. just gotta take time to find the ones who do!

thanks for the advice, i am writing about these themes with the purpose of dealing with some past traumas and hopefully helping young girls refrain from making the same mistakes i made (well, a more dramatic version of it).

i aspire to be a storyteller and help people first and make money second therefore self publishing could be an option for me. however, you are correct, i do need to not worry about publication of a work that is in its first stages. thank you again!!
