In January I've started journaling, because therapy is too expensive and I found that it was the closest I could get to talk about my feelings to someone. I don't usually ask for help since most of the time I can handle my own in regards of my emotions. I'm like Batman. I work better alone (in this case).
I found out that the journal is actually very useful for coming to peace with my own thoughts. Just the idea of saying something that it is only for myself to read makes It kinda reassuring. Knowing that I can be 100% myself without fear of what people wil think of my thoughts and without people trying to help.
The journal is not only useful for the diary aspect of it, but I also use it to preety much everything. To-do lists, rankings, reviews, bullet points, ideas, songwriting, drawing, etc. Everything comes together as an interesting view of what happens inside my head that I like to go back and see In what headspace I used to be in. I wonder what it will be like to read this years journal in like 2040 or something. Of all of the journal's uses, the time capsule aspect is probably the coolest.
Also the fact that it is a physical notebook makes it even better. You can journal digitally, but i think it's different to have something that you can touch. Just the way you layout what you write, and your handwriting is so special and unique to each person. I love seeing peoples handrwiting, It is always so interesting and beautiful.
I have already finished one journal (January - August), and am on my second one, and I STRONGLY recommend everyone to do it. Just buy a notebook (I pesonally like unlined, It gives me more creative space even when it comes to just writing). Start writing and you will see what I'm talking about.
There are also some great youtube videos with ideas of what to write, you can check out that too.
And if everything I said wasn't enough to convince you, when you write you do feel like Batman from the 2022 film. I almost wrote "Gotham Project" on the cover of my journal.
Jokes aside. It is a great habit, and just for the fact that it is away from screens and social media, is makes for such a great experience. Seriously, buy a notebook, go to a coffee shop, and write, doodle, anything.
If anyone ends up doing this, or anyone already does, lets talk about what you think in the comments!
Thank you for reading.
