living with conspiracy theorist parents

im sure half the people on this site don't have very good relationships with their father figure, but this post isnt really done in “hate” towards my dad, more just “what the fuck is up with this guy”

hes been anti-establishment in some way or another his whole life, he grew up in Erko (erskineville for the uncultured) smack dab in the 80s, he worked in photography, and my first memory of using the internet was him pirating movies for my mum on utorrent (remember when ppl still used that one? good times.)

but ever since i’d say like, 2014? his political beliefs have been very interesting. i was raised with sharing the computer with him when he was cooking dinner etc and then graduated to having my own pc next to his in the home office, so i got to consume about 70% through osmosis of the stuff he watches. it started on 9/11 conspiracies (fair enough), then abortion, then JFK, then that novichok poisoned doorknobs thing if anyone remembers, then a FUCKTON of videos on the clintons, climate change denial, the list goes on

and then covid hit.

he denied fucking everything about covid. he single handedly divided the family right down the middle, he held off on my vaccinations for 2/3 years straight, every night was arguments and a bit of drinking. overall he turned into a fucking horrible person. i’ve never met anyone more hateful. the worst thing is that he goes full on redditor mode in every argument, like christ on a bike maybe i just want to see my siblings and tell them that i’m not like you

he took me on a road trip 30 minutes before the second lockdown set in and we went around the country for about a week to “taste freedom”, cant lie it was fun but something about it just felt so wrong

almost six years on from when covid started i have bot had ONE conversation about the virus at all with anyone i know, nor have i wanted to watch any content about it apart from what i need to know in the moment. i’ve never wanted to being it up since it fucked up my home life and family so much. i dont know what the common consensus even is on lockdowns, social distancing, masks or vaccinations and neither do i want to really know.

then he started going after immigrants, then anyone who wasnt white, then just any minority group at all. two months ago he said that he doesnt believe in any modern science. i dont know how the fuck he got to that conclusion

on israel, luckily like every normal person he wishes death to the IDF, but unlike every normal person its cause hes gone full on neonazi mode on jewish people. strangely by that same far right rhetoric he denounces azov battalion and is a massive fan of russia.

while yes sure hes given me a completely different way of viewing the world (especially the west which i’m honestly thankful for) and the fact hes my dad, hes also a horrible, bitter, grumpy and hateful slob who has no job and rots his brain on bitchute every day contributing nothing to society

anyways point is, if he really finds out im bisexual theres a pretty decent chance i’ll just be homeless! i’m lucky to not be disowned after getting mandatory vaccinations.
