Diwali blog ( finally ) + pictures (REPOST)

22nd October — technically 1 AM, so I’m fashionably late 

okay, okay, I know I’m late Diwali was on the 20th and it’s literally the 22nd now but listen… I’m still recovering from all the chaos. you don’t just celebrate Diwali; you survive it.

for anyone who doesn’t know (which, how?), Diwali or Deepavali is basically the festival of lights in India. it symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance… all that beautiful poetic stuff. but if you live in an Indian household, you also know it’s the festival of endless cleaning, loud relatives, over-sweet laddoos, and diyas that never stay lit for long.

so yeah, Diwali was fun eventually. but before that? pure madness. imagine this: everyone running around with brooms, fairy lights tangled like snakes, my mom yelling “MAHI, WIPE THAT SHELF PROPERLY” every five minutes, and me just standing there, holding a rag, questioning my existence. I genuinely thought the safayi (cleaning) phase would never end. I even considered faking a fever at one point.

but then night came the lights, the rangoli, the smell of incense and sweets, people laughing and visiting, little diyas flickering everywhere like stars on the ground… and suddenly it felt worth it. it’s one of those moments where everything feels too bright and too warm, and you kinda forget all the chaos that came before.

we did the puja, burned a few sparklers (because I’m still lowkey scared of the loud ones), and ate so much food that I couldn’t move. I swear, every Diwali meal feels like a personal challenge to my digestive system.

so yeah, I’m late to post this, but Diwali was… nice. exhausting, loud, but nice. and now that the house is too clean and too quiet again, I almost miss the madness. almost.
