Well, let me get this out of the way first: THAT WAS SO FUCKING AWESOME DUDE!!!, VISUALLY AND SOUND WISE IT WAS FUCKING AMAZING. Ehem, now onto the more "collected" thoughts:
Starting off with just the visuals. I will admit i was one of those people that were a little concerned about the change in general style from Season 1 to this movie. I thought S1 was a really nice fit for this story and added a lot to the "vibe" of the Chainsaw Man adaptation. And while I do still love the S1 style, I cannot at all say that this was inferior in any way. I'd say they're both amazing ways to adapt this manga, just in different ways with different goals in mind. The more "loose" and less "realistic" style really fit with how much more "over the top" the action gets in this Arc, especially with the last fight. The colors were also absolutely stellar, mainly talking about the part in the final fight where Denji and Reze battle inside an office building (or at least i think that's what that was). Literally every time we see Reze using her powers it's just absolutely beautiful. Same with the less extreme moments like her taking out that assassin. Those moments were great not just in how they look, but how they sounded
Speaking of!: Audio!
The music was perfect, kudos to Kensuke Ushio for all the tracks, along with all the members that played the more orchestral parts. Of course also kudos to Kenshi Yonezu for that amazing opening theme and to Hikaru Utada (and also Kenshi again) for the ending. I was already familiar with Ushio and Yonezu obviously, but i still was blown away by their work here. And while i wasn't familiar with Utada until now she didn't dissapoint at all, she has an amazing voice. I also can't not mention how insane it was to finally hear the second verse of HAWATARI NIOKU CENTI. Even just the start of the song gave me goosebumps from how the bass made the entire room vibrate. That right there is the sort of stuff you only get from watching in theaters. Also getting to hear that new version of Edge of Chainsaw during the final part of the Typhoon fight was downright epic
And of course there's also the sound design. What stuck with me the most was obviously how Reze's powers sounded, they did a fantastic job at capturing just how dangerous she is and how destructive her powers are, really making every explosion just HIT, yknow?.
I also gotta say, i forgot how many funny moments this arc had lmao, pretty much every scene with any of the fiends was great. Seeing this really made me remember how much I love Beam (and how much i miss him too).
The story itself was obviously top tier stuff, but we already knew that of course. I will say, I never really "got" why everyone loved the Reze arc so much. Maybe it was just me being dumb, but while I did of course love it when I read it, i just saw it as another great arc and that's it, didn't really see what was so "special" about it. But i think that's changed now, after seeing this I think I get why this is some people's favorite arc in the entire manga up until now. I still wouldn't call it *my* favorite, but it's certainly been moved up the ranking in my head.
Overall i'd say this was a great experience, and i'm really thankful my local cinema was doing an early screening one day before it releases in my region. Going there was also made great from getting to sit next to all these other fans of this series I hold so dear to my heart (There were so many cosplayers lmao it was sick).
I also got some Pochita stickers!!
Absolute 10/10 experience overall.
