I've been playing Bear & Breakfast on my Switch for about 2 months. You're a bear, you run an assortment of bed and breakfasts. It's a good time (for the most part). I'm about to 100% the game. HOWEVER, it is not a good port and it goes beyond the wonky controls. I can deal with wonky controls. My favorite game is Kid Icarus: Uprising for crying out loud. What I'm talking about is the way the game has started to degrade.
Like there's this anthropomorphic goat named Julia and she cooks. You can hire her to cook for your resorts. I immediately took advantage of this because I dislike the cooking system immensely. WELL, every other day I got bombed by bad reviews and I had no idea why until I checked and saw that JULIA HASN'T COOKED ANYTHING. Every morning I gotta check to make sure Julia showed up to work today and I DON'T THINK THIS IS PART OF THE GAME. Is this an issue in the original Steam version of the game?? I don't know.
Worse is Pinefall. Pinefall is the last resort in the game meaning it is HUGE. It's got three cabins with 2 floors each which is already a lot for the game to handle and that's even before you decorate the place. Every time I load into that area I have a 50% chance of crashing. My Switch has crashed more in the past week than it has its entire existence. I only go to Pinefall if I absolutely have to, and I save before I go. Thank god the game has autosave because if it didn't I would have lost hours of gameplay to this already. Every time I load into Pinefall and I'm sprinting across the map and apologizing profusely to the game for daring to exist.
For some reason I reached my limit at a cut scene where the DIALOGUE GOT CUT OFF. Like every time there's a cut scene the screen will shrink like two black bars will slide in to make the screen thinner for the drama I guess. Well I'm nearly finished the game and as to not spoil it I'll describe this as vaguely as possible. I entered this spooky forest and came across someone who was very clearly important just based on the character design alone. Then they spoke and their dialogue box got cut off by the stupid screen narrowing. I screamed. I was so mad. I still have no idea what they said and I never will.
I'm left with nothing but questions. What do I even pay Julia the goat for? Why can't my $300 console handle a 2D management adventure game? Why do I even play Bear & Breakfast? It certainly isn't to relax. I think its out of spite, and I'm gonna keep going too. I've got 2 achievements left I think.
I'm gonna cook Julia into a soup.

I have since finished the game. All I can say is: what?
