Weird Comic Recommendations

It's fall now, which means the season of local comic and zine festivals has come to a close. I'm missing the vibes of being surrounded by weird artists, so I'd like to share some of my favourite weird comics. Most of which are probably going to be by people I've met at art fests.

Michael Mouse by Mitch Lohmeier - I believe this one is available to read on Mitch's Instagram still, but I'm not sure. Probably the funniest comic on my shelf. David Duck reunites with old pals Michael Mouse and Goony for one last heist. He's gotten his life together at this point, and he doesn't want to do it, but there's coke on the line so who's he to say no?

Pinky and Pepper Forever by Eddy Atoms - This comic changed my life I'm so serious. Eddy's art style is weird and messy on purpose and absolute eye candy. The pencil crayon illustrations have a fantastically whimsical feel to them while the story remains grounded in it's mature themes. I recommend everything he's ever created to anyone who can read if I'm honest. Pinky Cooper and Pepper Parson were two puppygirls navigating love and art school... and then they died. Now they're continuing their story in Hell, where they'll never be apart again.

The Pervert by Michelle Perez and Remy Boydell - I've only been able to read this one once. It sits on my shelf waiting to be reread, but the first time made me cry so heavily I haven't felt ready to read it again. I honestly can't really recall what the story was about beyond following a trans sex worker as she comes out and transitions, but fuck. I remember it ruined me. And I remember it being beautiful. Please read this one along with 920 London, also by Remy Boydell.

Clippings by Gabby Golec - Had the pleasure of reading this one at Gabby's first OCAD exhibit and immediately picked a copy up the next time I saw them. Clippings explores themes of codependency and love and hate, and the overlap of these things. Really beautiful work.

Be Kind My Neighbor by Yugo Limbo - This one I loved so much I got a panel tattooed on my body. Be Kind My Neighbor is a horror erotica that plays with the idea of expectation vs reality when it comes to cults and their very real impact on their victims. It's horrifying and sexy and fun and everything in between.

What Happens Next by Max Graves - This one's actually a webcomic! I think it's my favourite webcomic of all time, if I'm honest. The story is still unfolding and every update keeps you on your toes. Now imagine if you got cancelled on Tumblr for being an accomplice to murder because this is what happens to Milo Holliday. This comic I feel can only be understood by a certain group of folks who were on the internet in the 2010s, specifically tumblr users who know what the term "kinlist" means.

There's also the annual Shortbox Comics Fair going on until Halloween- I haven't gotten to pick anything up from this one yet, but I have my eye on a few for next payday. The Shortbox Comics Fair is an online comic festival held in October that debuts dozens of comics each year, all of which are exclusive to the festival and won't be sold anywhere else!

Not sponsored haha I just really like comics ^^
