MUAHAHAHAA!! good evening, denizens of hyperspace! (woah that one actually sounds cool)
you all shall receive a taste of a new kind of post that i'll dedicate to bands and artists that i've studied and pondered (obsessed) over, or possibly just underrated music acts that deserve some love n' recognition.
my undead heart goes out to by far the BEST black metal band i've ever heard...
start id. an image of the logo for the black symphonic metal band Carach Angren. the logo has a grey texture, and is written in a spiky looking black metal font. end id.

[GENRE THOUGHTS...] now, i don't really listen to a lot of black metal. i've no problem with it sound-wise, the majority of its community just seems a little scary considering all the random bigotry and nazism (but as far as i know, you'll find none of that with this band). it's certainly new however, as i'm much more of a death metal guy. i don't think i have a problem with it, however--the drumming style is nice, the vocals are fine, and it's pretty ok sound wise.

I: "AUTOPSIA CADAVERUM."
[BAND OVERVIEW]

Carach Angren is a symphonic black metal band from the Netherlands, comprising of a duo that takes horrific stories of spirits and turns them into magnificent, chaotic tracks that blend grand orchestral arrangements with the harsh vocals, riffs, and drums of black metal. Seregor does vocals and guitar, while Ardek focuses on backing vocals, orchestrations, and piano/keyboard (and in live performances, they're sometimes accompanied by various live musicians).

Carach Angren was formed in 2003, releasing their demo The Chase Vault Tragedy in 2004. in 2008, they released their full-length album Lammendam, a strong start to their musical reign of terror.

II: "DAMN SON, WHERE'D YOU FIND THIS?"
[HOW I FOUND THE BAND MYSELF]

how i found this beautiful band comprised of 2 beautiful guys screaming about ghosts and death whilst playing a beautiful, maddening orchestral crescendo was actually through Snotify Spotify.
[a booing crowd intensifies] now i KNOWWW that sounds bad. but trust me, i pirated the fuck out of Spotify at one point and never paid them a DIIIIME. at least not with premium payouts fuck buying that shit
(as of right now though they kinda cracked down on the pirated versions... though annoying, i still pirate mp3s and just keep them in my phone and computer.)
but yes, the first experience i had with CA was through their songs Franckensteina Strataemontanus (totally didn't have to look it up to spell it correctly), The Necromancer, and Monster. i stopped there though since at the moment my music taste was still very?? iffy??
it was primarily comprised of death metal and crossover thrash, i was still branching out so i needed to think about it.

...WELL I DID /ref

and it was THE best choice i could've made music-wise.

III: "ME PERSONALLY..."
[HOW I FEEL AB THE BAND]

Carach Angren is much more than a band to me--they're honestly theater production-level shit. the way they weave such dreadful, fearsome stories into great music is beautiful, and i wish more music had that level of passion and talent/creativity put into it! and don't get me wrong, there's DEFINITELY more people who make music with loads of talent put into it. but listening to Carach Angren, it feels so... so refreshingly new, even if they started in 2003. maybe i haven't heard a ton of music to declare what is new and what is just 'some other band but if they were a little different'. but CA? oh, they're a keeper, i can tell you that much.

i love their Lammendam album, Franckensteina Strataemontanus, as well as Death Came Through a Phantom Shipsome good picks from these albums (in order) would have to be La Malediction de la Dame Blanche, The Necromancer, Der Vampir von Nurnberg, and Bloodstains On The Captain's Log. really, if you want a true experience? listen to at least one of these albums, front to back. i'd personally recommend Death Came Through a Phantom Ship. its storytelling is quite grand, and honestly, if i could animate, i know for a FACT i'd be working on full AMVs. when i was introduced to DCTAPS, it felt like i was totally into pirates without even knowing it. there are tracks that stand out more to set the mood, or to carry the album's stories along. for instance, Lammendam's Hexed Melting Flesh is a favorite one-off track of mine. it's a quaint, eerie poem that keeps up the disturbing vibe that the album presents, short and simple. of course, there are better examples of this, like An Ominous Recording from Where the Corpses Sink Forever, i just personally enjoy Hexed Melting Flesh.

Carach Angren is pure, unfiltered horror, thrust from the depths of Hell and exquisitely transformed into a wonderful amalgamation of beautiful symphonies and the abrasive style of black metal. call me biased, but i rate the harrowing work of Seregor and Ardek a full 10/10.
and--just in time--they've recently released their new EP, The Cult of Kariba (in fact, they released it yesterday!).
But I'm not going to just spoil it for you, silly.

so why don't you take a listen, if you so dare, and let me know what you think in the comments?
...if you live to tell the tale.

"...AND THERE WERE NO MORE SCREAMS!" /ly

(P.S: honestly, it would make sense lore-wise if you listened to Lammendam before TCOK, but i don't care. go mad.)
(EXTRA P.S: this post is mildly broken, an invisible zombie construction crew is working on it as you read. thanks invisible undead construction crew!)
