Ever since I was a small kiddo, i was fascinated by retro games. I had a chineese PSP clone that emulated NES and old gameboy roms, and for about half of my childhood, those were the only games i was playing.Sadly, i never played those videogames on original hardware, but they were still enjoyable. I was spending hours playing games like Street Fighter II, Contra, Super Bust-a-Move ...
Those games, despite the fact that they are really old, are a lot more enjoyable than modern titles.I feel like modern titles are boring, as they do not change much (despite system requierments and some fancy lighting).
On top of that, most modern videogames require an internet connection,so you can't play in some situations (for example, when the power is out) , unlike old games where you only need some batteries and you are good to go.
Another reason I like retro games is the learning curve. In order for you to play old games on computers like a 486 running MS-DOS or an Amiga 500,you had to manually put the disk in the computer and load the game. This made gaming a little bit more fun, and it also helped the user understand how his computer worked.Nowadays you just click download, and the game is ready. Not to mention that some games had unique mechanics that are no longer found in modern games,or if a modern game has a learning curve,it doesnt feel as good as its older brother(at least in my opinion).
Not to mention the fact that old games can run on literally anything. You don't need original hardware to play those. You can use emulators,or even tweak a modern computer in order to play old titles.Meanwhile, modern games requier specific GPU's and CPU's, a shit ton of ram etc.In my case, i can't afford to upgrade my computer every year or spend tons of money on it.The most recent upgrade i made was switching from 2GB of RAM to 8 *_* , only because my ram failed.Same thing happened when i switched from HDD to SSD.The only reason behind the switch was that my HDDs failed.
The fact that I did not afforded to get high end hardware made me get into retro gaming even more, and made me appreciate old titles. It also made me understand computers more, because i run linux (windows 11 is shit,10 barely runs and 7 has tons of issues).Using linux teached me a lot about how my computer works.
And finally, the last reason i love retro gaming is the randomness. You can find tons of obscure titles that are, in my opinion, better than commercial ones.
That is my opinion regarding retro gaming and why i find it better. Now, what do you guys think?GAming back than was better than today? I want to read your opinions on this topic.
