It's crazy how little midwest emo or emo revival bands are recommended here and how little some people seem to know about actual emo.
I'm going to start giving you all a full run down on actual emo music, the latter stuff and the underground shit y’all really need to check out.
Early emo:
I know Fugazi is generally considered very early emo, but because the sound wasn’t solidified there yet, I’m not going to include them.
Instead, here are some other great early bands for you all to check out.
This is when emo started to form, when hardcore took on a much more poetic and abstract lyrical edge, not only emotional.
1984-1991 Revolution summer era
1991-1994 The Second Wave, Emo bands becoming indie music darlings
Underground popularity 1994-1996
Underground Mainstream 1997-2002 (Screamo releases included)
I’m not adding anything from the emo mallcore era. You guys know this music already. Bands like MCR, Silverstein and more.
This era eventually died and led to the 3rd wave of emo music and the emo revival, or fourth wave scene. Third and fourth wave is modern and encompasses bands that are still active to date.
Therefore, some of the songs I will recommend will be fairly recent from 10 years ago, since this sound has stayed pretty stagnant and hasn’t evolved much.
3rd wave era & emo revival (4th wave) bands:

Love this!!!
thank you! I will make one of screamo music but I'm not well versed yet, and I will also make a blog post about some insanely underrated bands that just made one ep kinda and then dissapeared (like most great emo bands lmao)
