A STICK ODYSSEY! Art for webcomic series I've been working hard on!

FOREWORD: This is the second time I am writing this blog because this website will kill your entire post if you use the word “j@vascript” (filtered obviously) even once!!! Not even any code, just the word! I’m unadding An just because of this lol. Ugh. Anyways, here is the “A Stick Odyssey” art collection!

I suppose this is technically an art dump. My last one was a bit more experimental as I wanted to add something interesting to what was essentially an incohesive collection of random drawings. Since I actually have a cohesive theme this time around, I think I'll play it more straight! Here is the "A Stick Odyssey" collection and introduction! Enjoy :)

[CONTEXT]

Technically I’ve been working on A Stick Odyssey as far back as 2016-2017! I was a middle schooler obsessed with comic books and desperately wanted to make my own! I discovered that I could fold sheets of paper and staple the middle folded part to create some makeshift comic booklets, and thus began this project.

[WHAT’S IT ABOUT?]

A Stick Odyssey follows the life of recent college graduate Steve, who lives alone and has recently been thrust out into the work force. Steve struggles with finding purpose in his life, often tired and unenergetic. One day, he and his coworker find a mysterious computer they’ve never seen before? They start messing around with it… when suddenly?? They’re zapped into another world! They have been pulled into the computer and are now stuck inside! Now they must find a way to escape and get back to the real world, and perhaps make some friends along the way? Maybe Steve will find the strength to take control of his life amongst all of the hijinks!

And that is the gist of it! I’m really excited to work on this project! Feel free to ask any questions you may have, you can bet I’m dying to talk more about this :)

Anyways, time to look at some art!

[STEVE]

Our protagonist! Often tired and sleep deprived. His eyes are a >< shape but his eyes are not closed! When he closes his eyes they look more like arrows and have another line through the middle.

[4 PANEL COMICS]

This section contains the currently 3 part four panel comic series "Hardly Working" that I started to get into the groove of panel pacing and also some character writing. It features mundane events in the main character's lives in the office. A lot of firsts with this series so I wanted to start small! I stuck with the stick figure designs for the characters mostly because it was easier to draw them quickly, I was hoping I’d have more than three at some point but I ended up taking a break around then!

Steve’s coworker is not explicitly named, but his name is Bob. He is a kind and optimistic person and a little older than Steve, often hanging out with Steve at the office and trying to cheer him up.

[XVRY]

This is one of the characters from the computer realm! His name is pronounced “egg-savory” and I often write his name as Xeaviry. He speaks in short, concise sentences and always seems eager to be of use. I want to keep a bit of surprise so I won’t say much else about him!

[CODE GUYS] (technically not all guys, name is a work in progress lol)

These guys are inhabitants of the computer realm who work as freelancers to serve the CPU. They often carry out menial tasks but also participate in some fighting when an external threat is detected as backup! Some of their designs will probably have major changes, feel free to mention what you think would look cool for them! :0

[J@VASCRIPT]

J@vascript has a very quippy and upbeat personality, and gets along with almost every one of the code guys. He wears gloves and boots, and he has these massive eyebrows that stick out like antennas or rabbit ears. He is definitely my favorite one to draw and I’m really happy with his design overall, perhaps I might add some more apparel.

[PYTHON]

Python acts like a super hero! He announces his entrance and says the names of his moves out loud! He wants to be a role model for some of the younger code guys. He’s not super fast but he packs a punch!

[C++]

Technically this is a powered-up version of a character named C. C is very old and a lot of the other code guys look to him as their senior, he is quite laid back and acts like a retired grandpa who’s itching to do some work. He is plenty capable on his own, but when he wants a bit more flexibility he transforms into his ++ form!

[RUST]

Rust is the outcast of the group. He is very smug and has a superiority complex. Not without merit, his strength and capability puts him next to C in terms of the power hierarchy. The language he uses is so complicated that he might be the only one who truly understands the full extent of its abilities. He also has no eyes, the thing seen on his face is something that shows up periodically with nothing known as to what it is.

I like the gear motif I have going for him now, he might benefit from maybe a more unique head shape, or perhaps a more unique expression. The idea of big pants suits him too I think!

[OTHER]

There are two other characters I’ve only drawn once before, and they appear on the cover image. I’ll include it again here so you don’t need to scroll all the way up to look at it.

The one in orange is named Kernel, he acts like a drill sergeant and is often loud and angry. He works in the firewall department and works to fight against foreign invaders, and he takes his job very seriously.

The one in the back with the cape… well, I don’t want to say much about him just yet :)
