I understand most ppl in this place are more into Alt-rock, punk, post-punk, emo, Hyperpop & all that's great. But from time to time I believe there's nothing better than to wind down to the beautiful voice of Lady-Day.
Of all of them, Solitude, Blue Moon, (On the) Sunny Side of the Street, Moonglow & of course, her gut-wrenching forever remembered Strange Fruit.
She tragically passed away in 1959 due to health-related problems to her drug abuse, infused into her dring her relationship with Joe Guy in the 1940s. This abuse only got worse as time passed, getting her on the FBI's dark list (as well as for having sung Strange Fruit, a protest song against the lynching of black people in the Deep South) as well as worsening her physical state to the point that her last album, released post-mortem, Last Recording, had to be edited in order to cover Lady Day's fainting voice.
May she rest in peace, Lady-Day.
