A few friends have come forward about this girl and similar tactics she used on them. She deleted these accounts, so I will post her most recent one here.
I friended a girl on here because she had similar interest (anime). Everything was going well, until the sudden change of topic. She was discussing how stressed she was and her dog needing surgery. I told her maybe she could do a petition, but she shut down the idea. She then immediately talked about her commissions to help her dog go to the vet. If this was really that urgent... wouldn't you have already made a blog or posted something within your profile?
These are tactics scammers love to use. They want to try and connect w/ something small that both can bond over, than use something to emotionally hook you. That is when they'll show their true intentions.
Tactics:
- Emotional Hook Early On: The person quickly introduces a tragic situation (sick dog needing surgery) to evoke sympathy.
- Vague and Evasive Language: They ask if it's “safe” to talk, which can be a tactic to build false intimacy or test boundaries.
- Sudden Financial Need: The conversation shifts quickly from personal hardship to a request for money via “art commissions.”
- Pressure Despite Decline: Even after you said you don’t have money, they continue to push by saying their prices are “very low” and to “at least try.”
- Generic Profile: The username and avatar (animated character) are often used in scam accounts to avoid revealing real identity.
One more thing... always be wary of links people send you! Never give out any personal information either!
