Analysis of the Relationship Between Music Taste and Academic Achievement of Gen-Z Students

Abstract

With the development of digital technology, Generation Z has become a generation that is familiar with music trends. Several studies say that music can affect concentration and learning skills, but not all of these benefits have a positive impact. Students who like energetic music, strong rhythms, and emotional lyrics tend to have more difficulty concentrating on their studies, experience sleep disturbances, and have decreased academic motivation if they consume too much music. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a significant relationship between various activities related to music and the learning achievements of Generation Z students at My Junior High School. The number of respondents in this study involved 43 students in grades 7 to 8. The sampling technique used non-probability sampling with a purposive sampling method. Respondents were selected based on certain criteria that were considered representative of the population. The results of the study showed that there were varying effects between music listening activities and the academic achievement of Generation Z students at My Junior High School. Some music genres had a positive effect, while others had a negative effect, with varying degrees of influence.

CHAPTER 5. CONCLUSION

1)    For the independent variable of listening to music with the dependent variable of learning achievement, the results of the three tests show that there is a relationship between listening to music and learning achievement. This means that students who listen to music can improve their learning achievement.

2) For the independent variable of preferred music genre and the dependent variable of academic achievement, based on the correlation test, t-test, and regression test conducted, the results show that pop genre has a positive effect on academic achievement, while other genre categories have a negative effect, which can interfere with the learning process for each genre.

3) The overall results show that student academic achievement has a positive relationship with various music activities, both active ones such as playing music and passive ones such as listening to music. However, this relationship is very small, which means that musical activities have very little influence on student academic achievement. Meanwhile, other factors that contribute to student academic achievement include academic motivation, self-motivation, and the environment.

so yeah doing music has a positive effect for you academic achievement, however, based on the correlation test, t-test, and regression test conducted, the results show that pop/indie genre has a positive effect on academic achievement, while other genre categories have a negative effect (The independent variables are pop/indie, rock/punk, jazz/R&B/hip hop/traditional/other), which can interfere with the learning process for each genre because maybe the most common reason why that it could affect negatively to your academic achieve because (ex.) rock has loud noises, fast ryhtm, and.. aggresive that could distract your focus (its all according to questionnaire results and the calculations okayy,),

feel free to ask, yeah
