Beyond Commonalities

It seems to me that, sometimes, society can tell us to seek people based on commonalities and common interests. As someone who deeply believes that all of Us are way more similar than we are different (understatement), in my life, I've met many people who seemed to share so many things in common with me. Yet, despite that...., I'd still feel misunderstood by a decent amount of them. I've also met/interacted with people where, by societal standards, it seemed we shared almost "nothing" in common. Ironically, there were many instances where I'd feel understood by Them the most! I found It to be wild and amazing to me! There were people that went through very similar things that I also went through, yet they seemed to not embrace understanding. Yet, somehow, there were people that didn't have the exact same experiences, yet seemed to understand me and how I felt SO deeply?

That's what got me to realize that there was something that existed beyond rigid commonalities. Two people can have everything in common, however, if egocentrism and dismissiveness exists within the dynamic, things will probably feel super distant between them. Inversely, two people can have "nothing" in common, yet, if emotional availability and mutual understanding exist between them, things can get super deep and close between Them to the point where They will be able to greatly influence Each Other's Lives (yet another understatement)!

Emotional availability, mutual understanding, kindness, and empathy seems to be what exists beyond societal commonalities. As a result, I continue to seek It and seek Others who seek This as well!

(You could say that this is the main reason why I state in the Interests section of my page that the foundation of mindful, passionate understanding is what interests me. In many ways, that gets to the core of what I care about in a very personal way even beyond listing things that I've already been exposed to: it's another aspect of doing my best to explore the Unknown and acknowledging my interest to do so mindfully!)

(Also, I use air quotes for "nothing" because, once again, from what I've seen, I believe that many people have way more in common with each other than they even consciously realize!)
