Have you ever wondered where gyaru originated? This beautiful subculture originated in Japan in the 1990s, making a huge impact in the 2000s.
The idea was to break with Japanese beauty standards and the image of the "shy, submissive girl," drawing inspiration from the rebellious American girls of that era. They sported tanned skin, shorts, flared pants, tops, long nails, purses, and visibly exaggerated makeup, causing a huge impact around the world!
