I used to do litter pick only occasionally, but I’ve really gotten into it lately. I have proper tools to pick up stuff now too. My dad made me a stick with a nail on the end that thats been helping a lot cause somethings the long grabbers can’t get flat stuff. I have a reflective vest, though I’m thinking of customising a patch jacket to have reflective strips on it instead. The work vest feels too corporate. Like I’m pretending it’s my job or something. Maybe I’ll paint Wall.E from the movie on the backpatch. I feel like Wall.E when I’m picking up trash.
The roads I started with are so much cleaner now, and I find that less people are dumping trash! I assume that’s because they see it’s clean and don’t wanna be the assholes ruining it, vs before they were just adding trash to pile that were already there. People don’t want their living spaces to be horrible, but they tend to copy what everyone around them is doing. I do wish I took photos first though, so I could compare them to now.
There’s always heaps of bottles and cans so I collect those to take to the recycling place and get some coins out of it. But that’s just a cool bonus.
Picking up a piece of litter isn’t gonna save the world against late stage capitalism and fascism, I know. But it’s something I can do to help my local community and environment. Think Globally Act Locally, right? And shit, maybe someone else will think it’s a cool idea and start litterpicking their neighbourhood too. Maybe it will intrigue them and bring them hope for the future. We can’t change the world without hope for the future.
Didn’t mean to get deep or whatever. I just think litter picking is very punk 🤘🏻

this is an awesome idea! it's good for you because you're outside, away from screens and distractions, plus you breathe in good air! it's good for your community because it makes the place cleaner and will stop people from contributing to the problem :DD i'm not on the same level but whenever i go grocery shopping, i always try and put all the carts away that are left out..it's stupid and somebody's job but they shouldn't have to do it! it always makes me feel good afterwards :P

I highly recommend it! You can do it without any tools by just picking up a piece of trash and holding onto it until you find a bin, or you can bring a plastic bag with you and collect way more. You can also wear a glove, which I recommend if you don’t have a grabber tool or are picking up anything that isn’t just like, a clean candy wrapper or a can or something. And don’t pick up glass or anything suspicious without a grabber tool!
