American Rapture by C.J. Leede
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
C.J. Leede kills it again with another great story. I can't say I like this more than Maeve Fly, but that would have been really hard to beat. Though I’m sure if she keeps up this quality of writing, I'll find something I like more.
Massive trigger warning for this one. If you have any triggers, please look them up before picking this book up.
What’s worse than being a Catholic teenage girl in a coming-of-age story? Being a sheltered Catholic girl coming of age during a zombie apocalypse! I really liked the way zombies worked in this story (being able to spread the disease through any bodily fluid), but some of those scenes were pretty graphic. This is a very classic zombie tale with its cast of characters moving from shelter to shelter as apocalyptic events push them out.
All the characters here were written well and had clear motivations. I think the only thing that held this book back for me was, 1. While I love reading from as many perspectives as I can, I have a hard time relating to Sophie 100%. In the same way, it's hard for me to relate to Carry on every aspect of her life. And 2. I feel that the ending was a little too ambiguous. An epilogue would have been nice. But I understand if there is an actual purpose to the ambiguity.
