And I truly do believe that.
In the current age, especially so.
Let me preface this statement, by being blunt- we're minorities, and with being minorities, come struggles- any group that big yet that small will have those in spades, and we've got them.
Most importantly, right now, we have a massive target on our backs. No thanks to some bloody well well misinformed Washington idiots.
Thanks to years of medical paranoia, between vaccine skepticism, incomplete truths and misconceptions on what ND features look like and propaganda-esque media representation from groups like Autism Speaks, our group is under what can only be described as a political avalanche.
This wave in particular, represents the culmination of a decades long fight, between the suffocating amount of casual ableism out there and an almost frightening amount of ignorance on the issues we note most important, to be treated as both a minority group deserving of proper societal enfranchisement and assistance, and equals who belong in civilization.
Recognizing that the right has us pinned against a wall and nobody's bothered saying anything on our behalf, allow me- a 17 year old autistic socialist, to take the lead and sound the horns.
We NEED a political movement- we cannot afford to be silent in this moment, especially not as the leader of the loudest superpower on Earth is currently talking about how you can get ASD from some common cold pills SOMEHOW.
People either believe in or are actively spreading this nonsense across the planet, and it is critically undermining us on a human level, as it encourages people to look at us as lesser-
This is a bad thing, and will fundamentally shift not only the way people view us in society, but how they respond to us at the ballot box.
We've already seen the results of this kind of dehumanization politically, what with the US government actively taking the stuffing out of its health, education and sciences interests respectively-
However, stuff like this can spread to things we don't notice-
Tax benefits, social assistance, further mental health support, things we need to get on with our lives, could be tampered with in such a way that they're effectively neutered and made ineffective- whether that's via funding changes, redefining what our disorders and such look like from a legal standpoint, or just making access significantly harder to reach
THIS CANNOT HAPPEN, and the time to let it not happen is RIGHT NOW.
I'm saying we must have a revolution of consciousness and vocal opposition, if we want to keep our civil rights.
We are in no position to try and believe that the powers that be, given the benefit of the doubt, will do the right thing.
In five years, that position could lead us to the too little, too late future of trouble we want the least.
We have to be visible, we have to be vocal, we have to fucking force ourselves into the cultural zeitgeist and make people aware of us and our issues- and get them to care, mind you!
Doing this is imperative, crucial, VITAL, CENTRAL, CRYSTAL to ANY advancements we wish to make.
If we don't, it'll be our costliest mistake. If we do, we may still have a fighting chance to correct the problems we have right now and fix them, to make our world a little bit of a fairer, kinder, and gentler place to live in, to have a nicer, better outcome.
I urge you, to be willing to speak. I think it's time we all started speaking way more than we are.
Out loud. Right now.

I don’t have autism, but I do have OCD. If the Far-Right were to have its way with autistic people, do you think people with OCD would be next in their crosshairs?
Honestly, yes.
It's the key lack of understanding that makes them do what they're doing to minority groups, and that misunderstanding usually drives them towards either condescendingly trying to fix our "problems" or panicking hard and using fear as an excuse to have us dealt with swiftly (usually by getting rid of whatever it is they view wrong with us)
If they see us as a danger to society or troubled souls, they'll certainly go for whatever solution they can get to make the situation look better.
In other words, yes, if they're going for people with ASD now, then OCD probably isn't too far down the line next.

I pray to God that such things never happen. We need to stick together in these troubling times.

I know, I know. That's what I mean, man, if we don't stand up for ourselves and each other right now, then who will?
It's a tough time, but I think we'll be okay if we don't forget that.
