taylor swifts song 'CANCELLED' is a horribly written, rightwing dog whistle.

if you've been on tiktok i'm sure you've seen a video taking about taylor's new album, the life of a showgirl. the consensus is that it's bad. i'm not listening to the music for the sole reason that i know i won't like it even if it is good, but i have read the lyrics. 

and holy shit, CANCELLED is one of the worst songs lyrically i've ever read

this is all opinionated of course, but i've been talking to myself about this so i've decided to write it down. The lyrics, aside from being shallow in their metaphors and absolutely nothing special, are dog whistles. the theme itself, about being cancelled by the internet/haters is just a massive right wing dogwhistle. 

the words "at least you know exactly who your friends are/their the ones with matching scars" just... wow, that sucks. genuinely horrible from someone as critically acclaimed as taylor. putting that aside, looking (not very deeply) at the meaning... it's saying that people who've been 'cancelled' can be seen as friends. like being cancelled is a way to show that people who are trying to be held accountable for horrible actions are your friends. 'yeah these snowflakes got mad at me for saying slurs in 2014' type shit 

honestly it's just pissing me off. cancellation isn't even a thing, it's just fans trying to hold you accountable for the things you've done. which people should do, considering taylor has dated underage people before. i just can't stand her.
