Nice to Meetcha

Okay now that my profile's more or less completed I can use this space to actually introduce myself. I'm Roger, or Microbe, or Germ, or whatever else you'd like to call me. I'm an artist and writer, hoping to break into the world of indie comics, as well as a musician, although none of these things constitute my day job.

I hoard music in every available format (except 8-tracks...I don't have a player yet. Down with Spotify!), but didn't really get into listening to music with intention until late 2023, when I started to learn about ska. I checked out every book I could find about it at my school's library, listened almost exclusively to ska bands, and even went to a few shows! 2024 was the start of my Beatles phase (which I have not escaped) after watching AHDN and Help! with some friends of mine, and that opened the door to an entire world of music history. It inspired me to explore the music of the '50s-'70s, where I fell in love with psychedelic rock and prog. Later in the year, I started listening to TMBG at the behest of my aptly-named friend Pencilrain, which got me to explore contemporary music like new wave, synthpop, post-punk, no wave, punk, etc... Needless to say, I've been having a blast learning about music. I've also dabbled in metal over the years, a side effect of having been deeply into fighting games (Guilty Gear, especially) and wanting to learn about the bands that served as inspiration for the series.

I've recently dipped my toes into environmental education, which has been heaven so far. It's always been a passion of mine, but until very recently, I was doing it as a volunteer. It is such a different and invigorating feeling to have professional training and resources to educate students about the outdoors. If you have any interest in anything regarding ecology or related studies, do reach out! Any topic is worth delving into. Even less "STEM"-related things... I studied landscape architecture and city planning in school, so I don't even have a science degree, ha ha.

Blogs are awesome, I'm deciding. I never had much to say before now, but I guess I've become more self-centered as the years have gone by.

OH ALSO! I forgot! I'm part of a fangroup for Look Outside, an incredible horror RPG. Check it out!
