I posted this as a bulletin but I wanted to preserve it past ten days so decided to make it a blog as well.
I was curious about testing the algorithms between my YouTube page and my TikTok page. So I reposted about three of my genealogy videos that were eight months old from my YouTube page to my TikTok page. Interestingly, the first video got over three times more views on TikTok in the first couple of days versus the eight months it was on YouTube. The second video got about the same number of views on both platforms, and the third video stalled at less views than on YouTube. That surprised me because I assumed all three videos would get 3-4 times the views on TikTok than on YouTube.
That being said, I think I'm going to approach posting genealogy videos on YouTube differently than I do now. Currently, I mostly post "how to" videos for genealogy beginners. However, as far as YouTube goes, that market is pretty saturated. As a result, my videos don't get very many views. Instead, I'm going to be making my genealogy videos a bit more personal. I had been resistant to doing that because I thought that might be too boring but perhaps the personal touch might be more interesting to people. We shall see.
