Whether you can't afford a Tamagotchi or are looking to get back into them but want to try them risk free, these free indie games should offer you a chance to experience Tamagotchi entirely for free. 

Every entry on this list is fully virtual and can only be played on smart devices. None of them have had a physical release.

1. Tamaweb

Tamaweb is the closest game on this list that is basically Tamagotchi. It brings Tamagotchi out of their plastic shell conveniently into your hands from any smart device you own. Play on mobile or pc.

2. Boing Boing Animals

Boing Boing animals allows players to raise and care for a slime creature that turns into different, rather normal, animals. What makes them unique is the accessories and how cute the art style is. Perfect for those who want to care for actual animals.

3. Mochi Pets

Mochi Pets is a fun little widget for iphone users only that lets you play without any worry about your pet dying. It doesn't seem to be able to die since it survived a few days without me doing anything for it. This pet is best for anyone who wants a little distraction at times but doesn't want to have to fully commit to it like you would with a Tamagotchi.

Kotodama Diary is visually similar to Tamagotchi with the art style, but the designs and gameplay are different.

Tamanotchi unlike a Tamagotchi, doesn't let you really interact with your pet. You can feed them until they are full and then you have to wait until they're ready to eat again to resume feeding. Feeding is what allows them to grow and evolve.
