What helps me stay focus during studying

I'm someone that really is bad at staying still and gets distracted easily here is some things that really help me

1) Jazz music out loud

-I used to be the type of person who didn't really believe in study music but its really helpful, usually the music i listen to is rock, indie rock, metal and stuff like that but music without words and with a calming effect helps relax but also doesn't distract you with lyrics. When im listening to my favorite songs i usually drift off into really listening and analyzing the lyrics so jazz music or ant instrumental has been really helping me with relaxation.

2) Get comfy

-I used to sit in a wooden chair to do my work and it really reminded me of school which really sucks and siting for hours on end wears you down and makes you feel like this workload is never going to end.

3) Breaks

-depending on the time you decide to spend on homework plan breaks in between subjects. For example if you have math, reading, and science homework take breaks between each subject. But I also want to say, do not get on your phone during breaks. This is important because phone use can really interrupt the flow of concentration already established and can lead to mindlessly scrolling and wasting time leaving you stressed about the rest of the assignments left to do. What I suggest is going outside or just stretching. I had such a bad habit of stopping my work to respond to text (although I love all my friends) I have to hide my phone somewhere out of my reach so I won't waste the whole day texting.

4) Planning

-Be realistic about the goals you have set for yourself. You wont do 19 assignments in one day (try not to get at a point where you are so behind in homework that you have 19 assignments to do in one nights) If its over the weekends do some work one day and leave the rest for the next (pretty basic stuff huh?) It's important to not spread yourself too thin it will result into burn out and well create a negative environment for studying. Get a planner, dude when I tell you buying a planner is the best thing that I've ever done, I mean it. I used to think, "why would I waste my money on a planner, I've never used one why do i need one now."  but then work started to pile up and I didn't remember what assignments were due or when a test was coming. Trust me planners are life savers.

Reminder: Everyone is different, but these are stuff that have helped me to concentrate

I like to listen to upbeat music to get momentum going. Hyperpop has been a blessing so far in my junior year, SOPHIE&charlixcx are good. I like AG cook too.

pretty solid advice! might i add, if you're the type to get into gaming, an alternative to slow music could be perhaps intense battle music can help lock in especially if you have something to rush or stay awake for. equally important and probably doesn't need to be said, but proper rest and nutrition go a long way to setting yourself up to absorbing information a lot better than if you would be running on fumes of just coffee and 3 hours of sleep. to anyone reading this, do well on your learning!

I love how I found your post while taking a break in my studies.

I used to feel the same way about planners, but you are so right that they can be very helpful. Especially if you have multiple classes going on, or tons of meetings at work. You reminded me that since it's the end of the year, I guess we should start looking for new planners soon.

For background music, I totally agree that I can not focus if there are lyrics. Really depends on the mood, but recently I have been listening to liminal music. Like liminal spaces type music.

Lastly, the comment about not taking a break on your phone- totally on point with one. It's really best to just cut down on phone time in general. Something addictive about it for sure.
