Book swap adventures

The students at the Economics building at my university were hosting an event where you swap books. A.K.A: you donate books and you can take home some of the other books in the pile in exchange. It was very fun. I gave away my copies of Fablehaven and Jonathan Livingston Seagull (sorry grandma), and I took home This Fortress World and The Mystery Of The Yellow Room.

Aside from reading the summaries and skimming the first few pages, I grabbed these practically blind, so I don't know if they're good or bad books. But that's the beauty of these kinds of events right?

After that, I started kind of aimlessly walking and finding somewhere to spend my remaining $10. I ended up buying a guanabana frappe, a can of Arizona tea, a Kitkat, and a box of candied peanuts to share with my mom once I got home.

I also wanted information on where to find a replacemnt battery for my digital camera in my city, because I want to avoid ordering it online. I hate online shopping so much you have no idea. So, I went to an electronics repair shop, one where the signage clearly hasn't been updated in 20 years because it's so faded from the sun. The guy at the counter was the most grizzled miserable looking man I've ever seen. I mean no offense, it's just that that's exactly the kind of guy I expected to run that shop. I asked him about the battery and he kind of sighed in defeat when I told him it was a proprietary battery, but he was very kind anyway and directed me to a shop that supposedly sells all kinds of batteries. He said if they don't have it, then nobody does. I didn't go today because it's very far away so that's an adventure for another day. If they don't have it, oh well! I might just have to keep looking.

All in all, a pretty awesome day!

The book swap sounds like it was really fun! I think guanabana is a better name than "soursop."

That sounds cool! In the USA sometimes people have a "little free library" which is just a very small bookshelf outside usually near a park or church where you can take a book or leave a book. Hope you enjoy your books :D The first one looks pretty sci-fi. I wish I were better at avoiding online shopping. TBH I embraced online shopping in the 2000s and 2010s for the convenience, not really realizing how damaging online commerce is for user privacy as well as building new tech company monopolies... and also just the eroding of our everyday culture. To be honest though I just bought some stuff on ebay earlier hahaha. I guess it's something I can work on.

I'm reading that first one right now, I'm finding it interesting so far but I've only started it recently. No robot ladies in it so far though :P And yeah, sometimes online is the only place to find certain stuff I don't like it because of how impersonal it feels and all the uncertainty while the items arrive plus all the concerns you listed. I try to keep it to a minimum. I'd rather take a trip to the other side of town to try and find what I need before going online. And well, if I have to shop online, I try to do it on websites where I know there's another person personally selling the item instead of some nebulous conglomerate. I've never shopped from Amazon and I intend on keeping it that way LOL.
