Made my first pendant in my Silver Smithing Class!

Silversmithing

Today was so tiring, but my sister and I managed to complete our first pendants! Given that this is only our fourth class, we are still working with copper instead of actual silver because it's a much cheaper material, and so if we mess up, it doesn't matter. During the lessons prior, we cut out the flower shape and used a drill to pierce through the metal to saw through the negative spaces. It was quite challenging!

After that, we filed down the edges, sanded the copper down, polished it a few times with a Dremel and then tossed it into a tumbler today. While it was in the machine, we made a few jump rings with copper wire and then fastened one to the flower. Once it was all clean and shiny! We also curved the petals by hammering the charm inside this little block, which made it much prettier imo.

I felt a real sense of achievement after making this, and though it's still pretty rough, I'm looking forward to designing my next pendant! I'm thinking of doing something related to Halloween because it's my favourite time of year, and my lecturer recently demonstrated how to make a spider by soldering metal. Today was my first time soldering, and though using the blow torch was a bit daunting, it worked out pretty well!
