Hello there wonderful people of the internet!
Since today I have a day off from school I have decided to finally get to writing my first book recommendation. I'm super new when it comes to writing blogs or whatever you'd want to calls this, so please excuse any mistakes. I'm also open to suggestions so do tell me if you have any.
Without further ado the book I'd like to talk about is "School girl" by Osamu Dazai (as you already know from the title). I've picked this one because it is one of my favorite books of all times, which is saying a lot since I rarely say that something is my "favorite". This is my first and only book I have read from Dazai so I can't really compare it to any of his other works. From what I've heard it's definitely not as heavy as "No longer human", but I can assure you that it still has a pretty deep meaning.
You may be wondering what this book it about. Well, if we were to look at it without thinking much about it, it's about one single day of a high school girl who lives in Japan during the early 20th centaury. It's a very simple concept, however what makes it interesting is that she is our narrator. We readers get to hear all of her thoughts and feelings. I guess that's one of the many reasons I like this book. I've always been a sucker for unreliable narrators because stories like that allow us too really inside of the minds of the characters.
I believe that our protagonist is someone that many people could relate to in one way or another. Her father died a few years ago, her mother has been in a certain state of depression ever since, her older sister moved away and she misses her a lot, she feels insecure about the way she looks, she has both happy moments during her day and uncomfortable ones. While reading the story I found that the school girl and I shared a lot of thoughts. It was so strange to read your own thoughts on paper that you didn't write but a man that lived before your grandparents were alive did.
The book itself isn't very long. The Polish translation has a little over 100 pages so you can finish it in one sitting. I'd say this book is perfect to read whenever you feel lonely or when you are in a melancholic state.
I think that's all. I hope I didn't forget to write about anything important. Thank you so much for reading this!
Take care!
Werella

Dracula is on my reading list, I don't know when I'll get to though xd. If you're okay with audiobooks (and listening to them in English) there are a couple on YouTube. I know the pain, it can get so hard to get certain books here in Poland. You gotta be creative sometimes.

I've read School Girl awhile ago and I loved it!! I fs loved how unfiltered her thoughts were If I remember correctly cause the writing wasn't sugarcoated and instead very down to earth especially for a depressed teen so I thought it was pretty realistic :p I'm so sad I don't see that as often in other books :((
I've also read No Longer Human and it's one of my favorite books!! If you ever get the chance to read it i'd LOVE to read your review of it :D
Thank you for the comment. I've been meaning to read "No longer human" for a veeeery long time, but school has been taking so much time as of lately. I'm reading a bunch of plays for a competition at the moment and I'm currently also reading Stoner. There are so many books but so little of time

I've read School Girl, and I really enjoy it. Based off what you've said here I think you'd like The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea by Yukio Mishima if you haven't already read it =3
I personally enjoy books from unreliable or flawed perspectives, and this 1 is really great if you're into that.
Thank you for the rec! I'll definitely check it out when I have the time.
