a semi horror/weird short story I wrote

Lillian woke up early in the morning, the sun hadn’t even begun to rise. She let herself wake up for a second and then realized she could hear a noise that sounded like crying, but it was very quiet. She decided it was just the wind. She wasn’t sure if the crying wind was what had woken her up so early, but she figured she might as well start her day and maybe finally get out of her bad habit of sleeping so late.

She got up and went into the kitchen of her apartment to see if she had any food. She still felt like something was off as she stumbled into the kitchen, but she put it down to just being tired. As she turned the corner into the kitchen, she screamed. A figure stood in the corner of the room, so tall it had to bend over to fit in her apartment. It had no features that Lillian could see, but as she thought for a split second that she had seen it, she realized it was what the crying had come from.

As she screamed, she fell over while trying to escape, hearing a faint whisper, but as she tripped, she turned around to look again, it was gone. There was nothing. She thought for a moment about where it could have hidden or if it had escaped without her noticing. But then she felt stupid, realizing it couldn’t have gone anywhere. It must have been a figment of her imagination.

She slowly stood back up and crept her way back into the kitchen. The silence made her even more on edge. She opened the fridge and was confused to find it completely empty, even though she was sure it hadn’t been when she had gone to bed the night before. She shut the fridge and decided she was too tired to stay awake. She needed to sleep. But as she looked back towards the hallway, she realized it seemed farther away. She looked down at the floor, horrified as she realized it was growing rapidly.

She bent over and backed into the corner, crying, having no idea what was happening to her. Then, she saw another version of herself walking into the kitchen. She screamed for help, but all that came out was a whisper. The other Lillian looked up at her and screamed. As she closed her eyes, she felt herself disappear.

Thanks for reading! I had no direction while writing this but towards the middle of the story I decided I was just gonna make it very trippy I guess. loll
