As a non-OG player with friends who rag on new skate, its mostly the bastardization of the franchise that people seem to hate. For example, my friend enjoyed it but only using a frame of mind that it wasn't a *Skate* game and was instead just a skateboarding game. I also enjoy it but its not really in the same spirit of a skate game. its too complete a reboot so that gives people a really bad taste in their mouth, not to mention the microtransaction lootbox perma online junk that live service games give in general.
I think it deserves to be looked at as a separate game but sadly with it being a reboot of a beloved franchise that isn't gonna happen. Personally I give it like a 3.5 outa 5. is enjoyable to boot up and glitches are fun but with few exceptions I am not a fan of live service games.
