sunset in the valley of adult mediocrity (poem)

except it's more of a port

in a dying rust belt city

where, if you're lucky,

one of the trash barges

will be making its rounds

and it's a nice photo op.

all you get is the view.

you will pray to your God

tonight and you will

thank him for that.

and you will be

happy for your office

that offers the same

outlook across the water

where, if you're lucky,

one of the trash barges

will be making its rounds

and it's all you can do

to stand like an imbecile

and watch your dreams

visible clear as day

from the eighth floor

sail away in real time

towards the dump

you dug yourself

into.
