Not sure what it is but I've been feeling really nostalgic as of late. Been going back and listening to more music from the 2000s, and remembering all these things that happened when I was a kid. I wouldn't really say I "miss my childhood" because it kinda sucked, but the 2000s themselves were dope af.
I miss playing Underground 2 on my Gamecube.. sure I still play it on PC but I miss how new the game felt. I miss cars actually having good designs (I've been into cars since I was a kid), and now that I'm old enough to drive I only stick to old cars because they actually offer a driving experience and not a watered down sterilized boring feel. I miss how varied the radio was, could go from Lil Jon's "Get Low" to Paramore and both hit right for completely different reasons. I miss technology being cool, these days the prices go up and the features drop.. every model of phone is the same as the last with less stuff, and PC parts get better but there's little games out there to take advantage of the hardware so nobody bothers with optimization or quality control. Overall I just miss the whole vibe, the culture, the world as it looked and felt. Is that weird?
I don't mean to be all "Old man yells at cloud", but my point is: The 2020s don't have a vibe, feels like we constantly gotta give it one you know? Gotta use the tech that's different, dress cool, use the AUX or BT Cassette any time we're in the car just so we can give the 2020s our own vibe. That's gonna make it real confusing for the next generations though, what am I gonna tell my nieces and nephews? Every time they ask someone what the 2020s were like, they're gonna get a vastly different answer. I guess I should tell them to ask me what the 2000s and 2010s were like instead lol.
Anybody else been feeling extra nostalgic lately?

Always excited to replay Underground 2, just brings me back to a simpler time.. albeit one with surprisingly more quality like you said. Roblox used to be a fun platform (I've been playing since I was a kid circa 2010 or 2011), but these days the platform is riddled with stolen games and ideas. Only game I really play on there anymore is Midnight Racing Tokyo, the other games I get bored of in like 5 mins
But yeah games back then weren't as graphically advanced as today, and in some ways not the feat of engineering/developing they used to be, and yet many old games are still better than new ones. The 6th and 7th generation of consoles had classic after classic, these days we get one classic every several years it feels like.

“The future is here, and it sucks.” Don’t be afraid to go back.
I'm definitely considering it lol

not to sound like a boomer or whatever but i definitely blame it on tiktok. it used to be that things had definitive and very drastic designs--anywhere from company logos or building architecture to character or product design. tiktok and its pan-platform viral spread has made everything so fast-paced and hypersaturated until everything is a rehash of a rehash of a rehash and nothing is original anymore. makes perfect sense that the 2000s is seen as such a warm and inviting time because everything was so original and people had the mental space to give things space instead of being constantly overstimulated all the time !
thankfully there's sooooo many ways to live like it's still the 2000s though. you can't make everyone else play along, but if you can do it for yourself that's all that really matters
I definitely feel that. I've said in the past that Tiktok ruined the car scene so I suppose it makes sense that it would ruin a lot of other stuff too.. it's the addictive short form content angle that makes it ruin everything it touches. Tbh I'm not sure how to live like its the 2000s anymore because most of my life (and my music) is on my smartphone, and most of the world now is built with them in mind, but I can come close. Like I said, I mostly stick to older cars and sometimes when I'm in them I travel back in time lol

i mean it definitely ruined kind of everything... humanity isn't meant to get constant infinite feeds of whatever we want whenever we want it. we used to be a society. we used to yearn.
i've done a pretty good job at replicating how the 2000s feels in my personal life. like i said, it's hard to get everyone else on board with it because everyone else has phones and what not but decentralizing your phone is pretty easy once you get used to the oldness of it all, and it definitely feels worth it to me now that i have. there are a lot of resources for it on subreddits like r/dumbphone or r/digitalminimalism. carrying around a camera and notebook instead of having it all on one device and all that. getting a flip phone that still works is real easy in 2025 if you know how to look for one.
it's not easy but it's definitely worthwhile!! and since you like cars so much maybe your first step can be looking into some forums online for cars or finding a local swap meet or mechanic group you can hang out with irl or something if you wanna

That's a pretty good idea! I like the idea of digital minimalism so I'll have to look into that too, but I do a lot of my banking digitally so that's a hurdle I'm going to have to overcome somehow. I'll just have to keep looking into it, and doing research.
You're right though, smartphones and the addictiveness of social media these days has made people more distant than ever.

if you're willing to shell out for a used one and you're in the us of a, the cat s22 is what i have. it's less of a dumbphone and more of a dumbed down phone-- it's a flip with a t9 keyboard but it also runs on android so you can download venmo and bank apps or lyft or whatever as long as you don't mind a tiny screen

That's about what I was imagining but didn't know what to search to find something of the sort.. thank you! :D

I've been listening to a lot of Jungle, Breakcore, D&B, and house and those kinda take me back. Whenever I'm not listening to those I'm listening to 2000s music that I heard on the radio when I was younger and those also take me back
