Runic Guide

Elder futhark is the oldest runic alphabet. Each rune has its own meaning but can also be used for writing. What I think is cool is that it’s a phonetic writing system, which means the runes correspond to sounds instead of letters, so you could use it to write in any language! However, some sounds aren’t represented by any runes, but there’s ways to work around that. 

Here’s a list of the runic alphabet in order of (roughly) the sounds of english letters

ᛒ -B

ᚲ -C/K (k sound)

ᛞ -D

ᛖ -E (eh)

ᚠ -F

ᚷ -G (guh sound)

ᚺ -H

ᛁ -I (ee or ih)

ᛇ -Ei (the I in iron)

ᛃ -J/Y

ᛚ -L

ᛗ -M

ᚾ -N

ᛜ -Ng (like in “going”)

ᛟ -O (oh)

ᛈ -P

ᚱ -R

ᛊ -S

ᛏ -T

ᚦ- Th

ᚢ -U (oo)

ᚹ -W

ᛉ -Z

and × represents a space

so for example, if you wanted to write “hope you are having a good day” it would be:
