Atari 2600

Towards the end of this summer I began exploring the Atari 2600 library. I must say I’ve grown very fond of it, even if its something from 10 - 12 years before my time. There’s something almost otherworldly about sitting in the dark, box fan running, room illuminated slightly by the glow of the 2600 on the TV. It proves that games can be fun and immersive even with very simplistic graphics. The minimalist aesthetic and challenge of limitations is the systems whole charm to me. Its like it presents a feeling of phantom nostalgia for a time I wasn’t even around for.

Here’s some of my favorite Atari 2600 games

* SpaceMaster X-7

* Crystal Castles

* No Escape

* Venture

* Frankenstein’s Monster

* Berzerk

* Vanguard

* Name This Game

* Adventure

* Missile Command

* Haunted House

I LOVE this post. Haunted House was one of my favorites. Another was E.T., which is known as one of the worst Atari games but I absolutely loved playing it.

Popeye was the first game cartridge that I bought with my own money - $16 at Service Merchandise.

Keystone Kapers should be on your acquisition list. Freeway is essentially an alternate version of Frogger.

Thank you ! I will be sure to look into Keystone Kapers and Freeway. I’m always trying to find more fun stuff. Either obscure titles or just ones I haven’t played before. I actually emulate them, so the options are pretty limitless lol. But I have problems getting the paddle games like Circus to work properly. So I mostly stick to joystick games. I love Haunted House though, the monster sprites look good for the time. And I enjoy the challenge of finding everything for the urn gives it a fun horror-puzzle element.

BurgerTime (awesome!)

That rounds out the ones I remember playing the most. And btw, the paddle games were junk when they were new lol
