Hardcore Show At A Church

This was a show that was FAR earlier in the month. Happened September 6th. I wanted to talk about it because it was very interesting.

Uhuru (the St. Pete based solidarity movement) was holding a charity show called Artists Against Genocide. It was a very interesting show. It happened at the Unitarian Universalist Church in St Pete Florida.

The first few acts were a few speeches and an RnB artist. I dont remember much of all that, I only really remember the punk bands tbh so thats what Im going to talk about.

Dissentors played, a Street Punk band from St Pete. Seen them quite a few times, but never with their current lineup. The second guitarist adds so much to their already very interesting sound. If you are ever in St Pete, and have the chance to go see them, I definitely can recommend it. Their lead vocalist plays an upright bass, and its interesting and fun. The music is also very political which I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ABOUT IT!!!! Their set here was fun, a little 2-stepping but nothing crazy. They were one of the main bands I went to see tho, and so it was def fun.

The next band I remembered was a band called Trust. They're a melodic hardcore band from Jacksonville. THIS was where all the crowdkilling fun started. Moshing in a church was a weird experience but a fun one. Trust was BRUTAL and fucking killer. Definitely would love to see them again. The music was interesting, and the melodic elements were a really fun and amazing touch to it all.

Directly after them was Closeface. A Jacksonville based emocore/emoviolence band. Needless to say, I got a very large bruise from this set (but tbf, it wasnt anyone else who gave it to me, it was me circle-kicking right into one of the Pews like a dumb fuck lolz). These guys were definitely one the more brutal sides of emocore, and that is always fun. Their drummer's lower rack tom was so fucking huge tho. It looked like a floor tom was hanging off his kit. Crowdkilling for this one was insane.

After them was RedEyesWhiteDragon, another Jacksonville based Emocore band. However this time they werent as much on the heavier side, instead on the more technical and melodic side. These guys were also incredibly fun, and while there was still crowdkilling, it wasnt as crazy. Nice little break. Nice and calm, yet heavy and dissonant. Definitely something interesting and fun.

Then came on Pilot Jonezz, a St. Pete emo artist/band (He's solo when recording and writing, but a band backs him when he's performing), kinda reminiscent of 2nd wave emo and Midwest emo (but I dont like calling them midwest emo, because they aren't a midwest band... they're from my hometown). Really good for calming everything down and taking a break in. Pilot Jonezz himself is insanely talented, and insanely chill to be around. They didnt play my fav song by him (Kamehameha) but it was still a really fun show nonetheless.

To end the night off, my alltime favorite band, Flag Burner (St Pete melodic hardcore band. The band that wrote the song in my profile. The song is Amateur Theorist incase anyone was wondering). Every time I see them play live its a treat. This was also my first time seeing them with their new lineup because I missed the show they played at Deviant Libation a few weeks before. Trevor's stage presence is always fucking amazing. Seeing that man perform is wild. He's in his 40s and still jumping high enough to use me as a hurdle. Their music is as interesting and as unique as melodic hardcore gets. It has a lot of 80s hardcore influence, and everything about it is amazing. Absolutely love seeing them every time. Best set of the night fr.
