Coffee, wine and everything... What are your favourite fall/winter recipes?
Hello! I come again with my favourite drinks for cold months!
Some time ago on Reddit, I found someone mentioning "peppermint tea latte" as one of their favourite drinks. Of course, I didn't bother to look up a recipe and in my mind I read it as "peppermint + tea + latte". About a week ago, I realized that I'm doing a different drink than intended.
What I do is I brew instant coffee with a black tea teabag, mixed with cinnamon, ginger, sugar and a grated peppermint. I could use mint syrup, but I simply don't have any. Then I top it all with warm oat milk (I think any milk should do) and cover it with cream. I make the tea coffee mix extra strong and the brew to milk ratio is about 1:3 or 1:4. It's amazing with home-made cinnamon rolls.
Another recipe I found recently is non-alcoholic mulled wine!
It's just a part of my life that all the foods I shouldn't eat are also my favourite. Mulled wine is no exception. Since I can't drink alcohol any more and the IKEA drink tastes like diabetes, I started to look for homemade recipes. And I found one that sticks. For this drink, instead of warm wine, you need apple juice.
You need to cut an orange into slices and put it into a pot with cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves and allspice; they need to be intact, no ground spices. Then you pour the juice into the pot as well.
Add some sugar, as much as you like, and then heat it up for 12 minutes. Don't cook it! Just make it warm. Then you strain the whole drink and it's done!
The last one is probably the most obvious one, it's peppermint hot chocolate. No big logic here, you just make hot chocolate, but when you heat the milk you throw in a crashed peppermint so it melts. It's a small addition, but it makes the taste of the drink so much more interesting.
I have tried making mulled non-alcoholic cider which is pretty much the same :) It is a great fall or winter drink. I will have to experiment more with peppermint candies. I have a small bottle of peppermint extract and in winter sometimes I will add a very small amount (it's very strong!) to coffee or baked goods :)
