I finally got the book. I love old literature, and I love deconstructing it. I love queer literature specifically and I got the uncensored picture of Dorian Gray, and I want to fully immerse myself with in the story. I will make updates periodically on the blog about things that I like and dislike.
Entry One:
Lord Henry has to be the most insufferably jealous self proclaimed hedonist I think I've read. I'm not that far in the book, but him being the devil on Dorian's shoulder just irks me so bad. The writing is so good, and the descriptions are beautiful so I will keep reading. I really love the descriptions of the uncensored version, the full contact makes the story more interesting. I love when there is an artist character who is infatuated with their muse, it feels so idk how to truly describe it, but its interesting.
Entry Two:
I know I said I would update, but I am basically finished with the book. Honestly, it was an amazing read. Due to it being uncensored it gave more context to things that I thought were important. The confession from Basil to Dorian hit a lot harder than I thought it would. Also... Hedonism. Hedonism was the root of all evil here. Harry was the Devil on Dorian's shoulder, and somehow he is surprised of the monster that he made of him. It was so fucking crazy. It made me think of how hedonistic society has slowly become with in the online space. We are obsessed with staying youthful and looking young, and living our youth--- but a lot of us dread the idea of getting older. We dread losing our youth. I resonated with Dorian, not in the murderous borderline narcissistic way but in the I do fear getting older. I believe it is because I never got to be in my youth, and I grew up too fast. It made me ponder my need to be free and living life, and how I fanaticize the life that I dreamed of. Pleasure isn't a bad thing, when its moderate. Dorian didn't understand that, and I think he is a lesson. The painted image of him was the lesson he needed to face. I wish Oscar Wilde could know that his book is so loved now. I decided to leave a kiss mark in the book because I think he would've loved it.
