While my body recuperates from the double-header gigs this past Saturday, here's my take on the two shows...
I will admit some things need to be kept private for professional reasons.
The early show with Rubber Duckie Riot was a LOT of fun! The singer Jay really knows how to get the crowd moving for sure. Energetic stage presence and does not use a tablet to read lyrics like most singers. He just GOES!! The band overall sounded great, but my guitar tone suffered due to borrowing a Morpheus Drop pedal. The band tunes down 1/2-step so while I have a guitar in Bb (I play 7-string, remember?), this pedal drops tuning and I can still play in standard but comes out lower.
It sucked.
My tone went down hill, sounded underwater. But I couldn't show it on stage. Kept moving like nothing was wrong. In my head, I thought "Holy shit I sound awful!" OF COURSE, everyone said I sounded great LOL! I can't fight City Hall so I thanked everyone and moved onto the next gig.
At least for the Spare Parts show, I could play in standard with no pedal and my tone came back! Even the bassist Bob said "Yeah now I hear what you mean." We had to find a fill-in singer as the one who was supposed to do it had a 101 fever that morning. So the drummer found TWO singers, one male and one female, and they alternated sets. I was kinda shot from playing the early show and then having to drive an hour to the next gig. I never set up so fast in my life, if you don't include any gigs I did opening for national acts where you're lucky to get five minutes to tune up.
Thankfully, the gigs paid handsomely so it was all worth it.
No shows until October so I can take my hiatus from "touring" :)
I'm still a bit tuckered out though.
